Me: The apple phone is too expensive! Did you know I can go to target and buy a smart phone for like $100? And then slip in that sim card and be done.
Sister: You already received your phone! It’s your phone! Tada!
Me: I know… but it’s too dang expensive for me to use. and it’s returnable. 😛
Sister: Well it’s a phone computer navigation camera Try it!
Me: $1000 is just over the top.
Sister: Try it first before you decide. You’ve never even had one.
In 3 years, you can buy yourself a cheap phone if you want, but I think you’ll enjoy having this one. And you might use your iPad less, so you don’t need that anymore so savings!
Me: gah i can’t believe a $1000 phone only lasts 3 years!!! that’s $300 a year. I could just get a new phone every year at that rate.
Sister: Anyway, just open the damn thing and start using it. Think of it as a present. I won’t buy you one next year no matter how much you want a present for any reason!!!!
Me: hahaha… u know, i was excited about a new iPhone. they are beauts. but i just got stickershock. I mean… it’s like I love tesla’s but you just bought me the tesla x and now i can’t take it out of the garage.
Sister: You have a case, put it on, stick the sim in and take care of it. let yourself live with it. If you try it and don’t think it’s worth the money, you can decide for yourself with the next phone. Or you can sell it on the secondary market. It wasn’t $1000, it was like $850. The thing(s) you spend the most money on should be the things that you carry and use the most. Your phone stays with you all the time.
Me: U know what? I’m going to use it. fer serious. This will be the fanciest thing I have in a long time. My last fancy thing that I would’ve never gotten was the pelikan pen which I use all the time.
Sister: Thank you.
I mean, do I steer you wrong? Do I tell you to buy things that aren’t nice *and* worth the money? I try not to!
And this is a *present*!!!!!!!!!!!
Me: that’s funny. you thank me for accepting the phone u bought for me. we’re so ass backwards.
Sister: omg, a new phone it’s like a counseling session!!!
I went downtown for a work event yesterday. During the lunch break, I met up with a friend for lunch and we walked around our old favorite walking paths from 10 years ago. 10!!! Not too much had changed except ourselves. She said she’s less patient. I am less restless. And we both reminisced about when we used to walk around town every day during lunch. I had a few extra minutes and walked around some gardens that we used to walk through. I don’t know how they do it but the roses were still in bloom. Then again, it was 70 some degrees today.
